Sonoma Public Infrastructure

Sonoma Public Infrastructure was created in 2022, consolidating two county departments, General Services and Transportation and Public Works to maximize efficiency, reduce redundancy, and improve delivery of services. Among its many responsibilities across Sonoma County’s 1,369 square miles, Public Infrastructure oversees public building repair and maintenance, infrastructure and capital projects, airport, water systems, multiple waste disposal sites, transit, and internal administrative services in addition to repairing and maintaining all Sonoma-county roads.

Statewide Honor

Congratulations to Sonoma Public Infrastructure Director Johannes J. Hoevertsz, elected 2026 President of the County Engineers Association of California (CEAC). The CEAC network of public works leaders and infrastructure professionals represents all 58 California counties. Honored at the California State Association of Counties annual meeting, Johannes will lead county leaders statewide to advance safer, stronger infrastructure for all Californians.

Congratulations to Rob Houweling, Road Operations Division Manager with Sonoma County Public Infrastructure, on being honored by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Northern California Chapter as the 2025 Transportation Manager of the Year. This recognition reflects Rob’s role as a cornerstone of Sonoma County’s community safety and infrastructure resilience. He is now under consideration for the APWA’s National Transportation Manager of the Year Award.
