Supervisors authorize $1 million investment in community resource centers, resilient infrastructure for Healdsburg, Cloverdale

SANTA ROSA, CA | May 07, 2025

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday authorized $1 million in grant funding for infrastructure development and improvements to Abel De Luna Community Center in Healdsburg and La Familia Sana in Cloverdale to better serve community needs for family resources, bolster disaster preparedness, and improve capacity for disaster recovery in northern Sonoma County. The two individual $500,000 investments come from the Supervisorial District Four Community Infrastructure Fund.

“This is an investment in partnership and co-creation to transform these spaces into full-scale family resource and resiliency centers,” said Supervisor James Gore, who represents Sonoma County’s Fourth District. “By investing in these community hubs, we raise up the good work that’s being done and ensure ongoing access to resources, while strengthening the County’s year-round disaster resiliency.”

“The Healdsburg Community Center has been an indispensable location during emergency response and recovery efforts,” said Jeff DuVall, director of the Department of Emergency Management. “The County’s investment in this resilience hub ensures that vital resources, services and partners can continue to serve the community in times of crisis.”

Located at 1557 Healdsburg Ave., the Abel De Luna Community Center has served as a Local Assistance Center during emergency response and recovery efforts. The center houses Corazón Healdsburg, the YMCA, Alliance Medical Center and Santa Rosa Junior College, as well as the Building Blocks Preschool Program, and weekly food distribution by Redwood Empire Food Bank. The $500,000 investment will fund critical infrastructure upgrades at the center including completion of Americans with Disabilities Act site improvements, such as including signs in braille and site entrance and exit improvements.

La Familia Sana is a non-profit organization that provides multicultural services focused on meeting basic human needs, including access to housing, health care and education. The County’s infrastructure investment, made through the Community Foundation of Sonoma County, will support the construction of the future Family Resource and Resiliency Center. The new facility is intended to be a lifeline for residents during emergencies and a trusted source of information and essential services for the community. La Familia Sana has partnered with the County of Sonoma, local health centers, Alexander Valley Healthcare, On the Margins and other non-profit organizations during previous disasters.
