For Immediate Release
Sonoma County Housing Authority opens waitlists for project-based vouchers
SANTA ROSA, CA | May 08, 2025
The Sonoma County Housing Authority will accept waitlist applications for senior studio and one-bedroom project-based voucher waitlist lotteries from June 1 through June 30. The waitlists will be for applicants 62 or over who meet the qualifications for “very low income,” which is at or below 50 percent of area median income.
Applicants will be required to provide information regarding income and any preferences for which they may qualify. To qualify, a household of two would have to make $60,400 or less per year. Applications will be accepted for project-based voucher units at the following locations:
- Vallejo Street Senior Apartments in Petaluma
- Daniel Drive Senior Apartments, commonly known as the Herb Lee Senior Apartments, in Petaluma
- Fisher I/II Senior Apartments in Petaluma
- Lindberg Lane Senior Apartments in Petaluma
- Kings Valley Senior Apartments in Cloverdale
Age and income-eligible applicants must apply during this application period only. Applicants must indicate which lists they are applying for on their application.
Applications will only be accepted after the June 1 opening. Applications are due no later than Monday, June 30, by 5 p.m. if submitted in person at the Housing Authority’s offices, or by 11:59 p.m. if submitted online.
Beginning June 1, applications may be completed online at www.waitlistcheck.com/CA085 or in person at the Housing Authority's new office at 141 Stony Circle, Suite 210 in Santa Rosa. The offices are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The waitlists adhere to the Housing Authority’s subsidy standards and reasonable accommodation policy, assigned to households of one to two people for a studio unit and one to three people for a one-bedroom unit. If your household does not meet the criteria for income or household size requirements for these lists, you may apply to other project based voucher waitlist lotteries (concerning various bedroom sizes and income limits throughout the county), which will be open in the coming months.
The Sonoma County Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is currently closed and is not expected to reopen until 2026. An application for a project-based voucher unit will not result in an applicant being placed on the general Housing Choice Voucher waitlist.
Disability-related accommodation to access any programs, services or activities provided by the Sonoma County Community Development Commission or the Sonoma County Housing Authority, can be arranged by calling (707) 565-7500/TDD (707) 565-7555. Translation services will be made available upon request.
The Housing Authority reminds the public that fees-for-service or credit card numbers are never collected when applying to Housing Choice Voucher or Project-Based Voucher waitlists. Scammers often create fraudulent websites that look authentic and make such requests for payment. Please be wary. Their names may say “Section 8,” and they may show an Equal Housing Opportunity logo. Such sites will often take the applicant’s money and sell their personal information.
If you find a website that seems fraudulent, please file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The only legitimate website to apply to the Sonoma County Housing Authority Housing Choice Voucher Lottery is www.waitlistcheck.com/CA085.
