If you’ve found kitten in one of our jurisdictions, please review the information below. If the kittens are injured or sick, call (707) 565-7100.
Before deciding on next steps for kittens, try to estimate their ages.
Kittens from 0 to 6 weeks old should not be away from their mom. If you see a mom or a nest, leave the kittens where they are. Their best chance of survival is with their mother. If you want to help, make sure the mom has access to shelter, food and water. Contact a trap-neuter-release group to have the mom and kittens spayed or neutered when the kittens weigh at least 2 pounds.
If you don’t see the momma cat or a nest, mom may be hunting or avoiding people. Watch to see if she returns. Pro tip: leave a ring of flour around the kittens. Check in a few hours to see if mom has left paw prints. If mom returns, leave the kittens where they are and follow the instructions in the paragraph above.
If mom does not return, call (707) 565-7100 for assistance.
