Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about the program
What types of home upgrades qualify?
Eligible upgrades include permanent energy improvements (solar panels, heat pumps, HVAC), wildfire hardening measures, water efficiency systems, seismic retrofitting, energy-efficient windows and insulation, and roofing upgrades. There are over 130 qualified improvements — see the complete list here. Contact our team for more information.
How does repayment work?
The program offers fixed-term financing with repayment through property tax assessment. This means you pay back the improvement costs over time as part of your property tax bill, with no money required upfront.
Can I still apply after Jan 12?
No, applications submitted after January 12 will not be eligible for the residential financing program. However, Sonoma County E&S continues to offer resources and support for commercial projects.
How long does the application process take?
Application progress is dependent on the property owner. An application is considered complete once we’ve received all required documents, fees, bids, and signed disclosures/notices in our office. Once the required documentation is submitted, our staff will process applications in the order they’re received which can take as little as three business days.
Do I need to choose a contractor before applying?
Yes. To finalize your application, we need the amount you plan to request, as well as a bid or proposal from a licensed contractor. Working with an SCEIP-participating contractor in Sonoma County can make things move more quickly. If your chosen contractor is located outside the county, we’ll need to obtain a local comparison bid, which can add extra time to the process.
